About the author

Gunlaug Nøkland with her book Vestbygda i Lindesnes

Gunlaug Nøkland, born Oct. 9, 1957, was raised on Aurebekk, a small farm in Holum, Vest-Agder, in southern Norway. From girlhood, her interests have included husflid (Norwegian folk art) and farming traditions. She learned spinning, weaving, dying wool and linen production from her maternal grandmother, who lived in Marnardal, Vest-Agder. As a young woman, Gunlaug studied textile production of wool, linen and cotton materials, and old Norwegian traditions.

Since 2001, the author has produced five books:

• Setra (2002)
• Amerikabrevene (2003)
• Emissær Skuland (2005)
• Vestbygda i Lindesnes kommune (2006)
• Legend of Siljatjerne Seter (2007)

She and her husband, Alf-Torgny Nøkland, live on a farm in Lindesnes, Vest-Agder. They have one daughter and five sons. Gunlaug is active in the Lutheran Church bedehus (chapel).
